Overview

A publicly traded apparel brand known for its commitment to sustainability is expanding its finance leadership with a Director of Tax & Treasury. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role demands a seasoned tax expert to architect and elevate the company’s tax function across federal, state, and local levels while progressively building treasury capabilities. This position offers direct influence over complex tax compliance and cash management within a fast-growing, multi-entity retail environment headquartered in Southern California.

Responsibilities

• Develop and oversee the global tax strategy, ensuring compliance and accurate reporting primarily for U.S. federal, state, and local tax obligations.
• Lead the preparation and review of income tax provisions, including quarterly and annual filings, deferred tax calculations, and assessments of uncertain tax positions.
• Manage indirect tax compliance across various jurisdictions, focusing on sales, use, and consumption taxes related to retail and e-commerce operations.
• Direct transfer pricing policies, documentation, and intercompany agreements to support the company’s expanding international structure.
• Collaborate with Supply Chain and Logistics teams on customs, duties, and tariff planning to optimize financial outcomes of sourcing and cross-border product flows.
• Oversee global cash flow visibility and forecasting in partnership with FP&A, ensuring accurate bank reconciliations and liquidity management across multiple entities and currencies.
• Build and refine treasury processes, including banking relationships, debt compliance, foreign exchange risk management, and automation initiatives leveraging systems like NetSuite and Ramp.

Qualifications

• Must-Have:
  • Over 10 years of progressive experience in tax and treasury within a public company or multinational, multi-entity environment.
  • Deep expertise in U.S. federal, state, and local tax compliance, planning, and reporting, with a strong ability to manage and evaluate external tax advisors.
  • Hands-on experience with cash flow forecasting, banking relationships, covenant reporting, and treasury operations in a multi-currency setting.
  • Proven track record supporting international expansion, including entity formation and cross-border tax and treasury structuring.
  • Background in retail or inventory-intensive consumer goods sectors, with familiarity in omnichannel cash flow and supplier payment complexities.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial modeling; experience with NetSuite and Ramp preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership in building and mentoring high-performing tax and treasury teams.
  • Exceptional communication skills capable of translating complex tax and treasury concepts for executive and board-level audiences.

  • Familiarity with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations in financial reporting.
