Responsibilities

• Oversee all general ledger activities including journal entries, account reconciliations, and accruals to ensure accurate financial records.
• Lead the monthly and annual closing cycles, performing variance analyses and preparing supporting documentation for financial statements.
• Maintain and update the chart of accounts, ensuring proper classification and thorough documentation of transactions.
• Collaborate closely with property and asset management teams to reconcile intercompany transactions and entity-level financial activity.
• Support the preparation and review of federal, state, and local tax filings, coordinating with external tax advisors as necessary.
• Assist with income tax provision calculations and maintain related workpapers, focusing on real estate-specific tax issues such as cost segregation and 1031 exchanges.
• Conduct research on evolving tax regulations, respond to tax notices, and provide support during audits.

Qualifications

• Must-Have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • 2 to 5 years of practical experience managing general ledger accounting, including journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close.
  • Solid understanding of tax compliance and accounting principles relevant to financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in Excel and familiarity with accounting or ERP systems.
  • Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
• Nice-to-Have:
  • Experience in real estate accounting, particularly with property management or investment entities.
  • Knowledge of real estate tax considerations such as depreciation schedules, property tax filings, and partnership allocations.
  • Exposure to real estate-focused accounting platforms like Yardi or MRI.
  • CPA certification, candidacy, or active pursuit of CPA licensure.
