Responsibilities

  • Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of accounting standards and regulations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of corporate structure and financial accounts.
  • Oversee and review the preparation of fixed asset details, depreciation schedules, and account roll-forwards.
  • Analyze monthly operating expense trend reports and annual budgets for designated centers/departments, ensuring accuracy and clarity in variance explanations for review with management.
  • Evaluate account trends and detailed information prepared by Senior Accounting Analysts and Accountants, providing insights to group vice presidents as needed.
  • Maintain a journal of inquiries, responses, and action items for each location based on monthly operating expense trend reviews and discussions.
  • Propose enhancements to policies, procedures, and system applications to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Offer constructive feedback to Senior Accounting Analysts regarding variance explanations, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial statement preparations.
  • Contribute to inter-departmental objectives and recommend improvements to policies and procedures for enhanced efficiency.
  • Facilitate cross-training among team members to ensure coverage for account reconciliations and analysis, including documenting specific procedures.
  • Act as the primary financial liaison between operations and finance, addressing inquiries related to payroll, accounts payable, contracting, and revenue reimbursement while adhering to accounting policies.
  • Communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms with peers and supervisors, providing timely and clear explanations regarding account policies and procedures.
  • Engage with operations by delivering thorough and concise explanations of variances and accounting policies to foster positive interactions.
  • Create and update workflow documentation for existing and new financial processes to visually explain their operations.
  • Establish and support standardized policies and procedures for financial processes and accounting reconciliations.
  • Manage complex issues and high-volume workloads effectively.
  • Develop and adhere to a deliverables checklist to ensure the accuracy of reports regarding dates, formatting, and specific nuances for each center or partnership.
  • Review and ensure timely and accurate balance sheet account reconciliations for assigned accounts as directed.
  • Prepare supporting schedules for balance sheet accounts in the required format as requested.
  • Ensure that general ledger journal entries prepared by Senior Accounting Analysts and Accountants are accurate and thorough, with clear descriptions of their purpose.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to minimizing errors, taking responsibility for mistakes, and implementing solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Understand and adhere to all internal control policies relevant to assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Effectively manage time and comply with the close schedule.
  • Provide requested information to auditors within one business day.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Previous experience as an Accounting Manager with direct reports in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in accounting software (preferably Microsoft Great Plains Dynamics) and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Solid grasp of key financial concepts, including budgeting, forecasting, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Possess strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Able to manage team members while juggling multiple large projects.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is preferred but not mandatory.
