Overview: Pacific Executive Search has been engaged on a search for a LA-based Real Estate fund in the Valley is on the market for a sharp Assistant Controller to join the team. The firm manages $1b in AUM and specializes in value-added real estate strategies that aim to optimize risk-adjusted returns for institutional investors. Collaborating with local operators and sector specialists, we explore detailed real estate opportunities throughout the United States.


  • Oversee financial and accounting functions to meet reporting requirements and deadlines.
  • Prepare investor financial statements and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting principles for all financial transactions.
  • Maintain accurate financial records for investment vehicles.
  • Enhance processes for efficient financial data production.
  • Compile investment data for investor reports.
  • Manage management reporting and ad hoc reports.
  • Prepare annual budgets and supporting files for reporting entities.
  • Develop accounting systems for robust reporting.
  • Coordinate annual audits and external audits.
  • Maintain compliance with reporting requirements and tax returns.
  • Review and approve journal entries and bank reconciliations.
  • Collaborate with operating partners on financial transactions and reporting.
  • Provide guidance and support to operating partners in accounting and cash management.
  • Manage cash management functions and ensure liquidity for entities.
  • Review cash positions, credit facility use, and potential actions.
  • Manage investor contributions, debt borrowings, and loan compliance.
  • Review and approve cash journal entries and payable processing.
  • Participate in company growth initiatives and mentor direct reports.
  • Maintain internal controls and recommend policy changes for efficiency.


  • BS and/or MBA/Master’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
  • CPA with at least 3 years of public accounting experience.
  • 7+ years of public/private accounting experience.
  • 5+ years of real estate and/or private equity experience.
  • Experience in accounting/reporting within a mid to large size company, preferably in real estate.
  • Knowledge of fair value reporting for real estate investments and debt obligations.
  • Proficiency with Yardi or similar finance software.
  • Advanced MS Excel modeling and accounting analysis skills.
  • Strong PowerPoint skills.
  • Ability to work with senior leadership on complex financial scenarios.
  • Ability to communicate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory experience.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work under strict deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
