Description:

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the accounting and financial reporting for a residential apartment portfolio.
  • Lead and mentor the accounting team responsible for residential properties.
  • Ensure the timely and precise preparation of financial statements for internal operations and external GAAP compliance.
  • Manage the Affordable Housing portfolio, including reporting obligations to lenders, joint venture partners, and government entities.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of significant financial statement activities.
  • Assist the VP of Accounting with requests related to consolidated and joint venture audits.
  • Review monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting packages for lenders and joint ventures.
  • Collaborate with operations and development teams to fulfill ad hoc reporting and analytical needs.
  • Prepare and maintain schedules for property tax tracking and oversee the payment process.
  • Communicate month-end tasks and reporting requirements with the operations team.
  • Enforce current accounting policies and procedures while implementing new policies as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Accounting on IT system implementations and enhancements.
  • Pursue continuous improvement in accounting processes, systems, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of member capital statements and tax packages.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a managerial accounting role or similar position.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to accuracy.
  • Demonstrated capability to lead and manage a team effectively.
  • Facilitate cooperative interactions within and across departments.
  • Ability to independently organize and prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Adaptable to change with a positive and professional demeanor.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • At least five years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Thorough understanding of financial statements and GAAP accounting principles.
  • Experience in the real estate sector is preferred.
  • Public accounting experience is advantageous; CPA certification is a plus.
  • Familiarity with REIT compliance, Low Income Housing, or New Market Tax Credits is a plus.
