Overview: Pacific Executive Search has been engaged on a search for a Tax Director / Vice President of Tax in West LA for a family office structured as a hedge fund. You would oversee tax compliance, accounting operations, and strategic planning, managing the tax implications of complex partnership structures and profit interest arrangements. This role offers the opportunity to work with a diverse real estate development and management group, gaining valuable experience in hedge fund accounting and family office tax operations.

Description:
**Responsibilities**

  • Supervise all tax compliance areas, including individual, trust, partnership, LLC, and private foundation tax submissions.
  • Oversee and assess the preparation and submission of K-1s, tax forms, and reconciliations for accuracy and timeliness.
  • Act as a valuable resource for interpreting and implementing intricate tax laws, including the impact of Lender Management LLC on family office activities.
  • Collaborate with the General Partner (GP) to assess deductions and profit interest implications across all underlying entities.
  • Lead a team of five to effectively manage interest booking, dividend reconciliation, and transaction recording on a cash basis.
  • Supervise month-end closing processes, including partnership accounting and profit interest allocations.
  • Document and review significant transactions, such as real estate sales, to ensure accurate representation of all relevant information.
  • Provide guidance and supervision to direct reports, promoting professional development and ensuring team alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Work closely with external tax advisors and accounting firms to streamline procedures and ensure compliance.
  • Establish and uphold internal controls to protect financial assets and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Analyze tax and accounting data to offer actionable insights and recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Ensure transparent reporting for stakeholders, including detailed financial and tax reports tailored to family office requirements.

**Qualifications**

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification preferred.
  • 10-20 years of experience in public accounting, particularly at the management level, with expertise in individual, trust, partnership, and LLC tax matters.
  • Extensive background in hedge fund accounting or family office tax operations, with a focus on cash-basis accounting.
  • Thorough understanding of tax regulations and pertinent case law like Lender Management LLC.
  • Demonstrated capability to lead and mentor teams, ensuring high performance and adherence to deadlines.
  • Strong relationship management abilities and effective collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and intellectual curiosity.
