Fund Controller for our real estate client in Downtown Los Angeles. They are looking for someone who can manage the work activities of an accounting team. This role will be responsible for oversight and development of staff. Oversee the accounting and reporting requirements on fund investments including set up and accounting for complex multi-tier investment entities. 

Responsibilities:

  • Review and verify financial information including monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements for funds and separate accounts prior to submittal to client and investors
  • Review joint venture financial statements
  • Review system prepared reports and supporting schedules for accuracy
  • Review and sign-off on property and fund level bank account reconciliations
  • Ensure management fee calculations to be in accordance with the current Management Agreement
  • Troubleshoot escalated issues and ensures internal and external customer requests are handled timely, accurately and with a focus on customer service 
  • Review and analyze performance returns, advisor incentive fees, and acquisition / disposition fees on real estate investments
  • Review valuation models for reasonableness in determining asset fair market values
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of each legal entity and debt structure, prepares interest billings monthly, and monitors compliance by the debtor with specific deal requirements
  • Coordinate and insure completion of annual audits by required deadlines
  • Set up, analyze and review joint venture structures and underlying inquiries, subscriptions, and redemptions terms and conditions
  • Set up, analyze and review interest rate, currency and credit swap calculations
  • Review periodic P&L calculations at the fund and investor levels
  • May assist with internal and external property and client transitions
  • Work with other internal teams in handling special requirements as defined in the Management Agreement
  • Provides formal supervision to individual employees, mentors and coaches team members to further develop competencies

Qualifications:

  • CPA, CMA or relevant professional certificate
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related
  • Minimum of six years accounting experience
  • Fund level accounting experience required
  • Requires prior supervisory experience and experience with real estate accounting or fund accounting software systems
  • Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex business documents
  • Ability to effectively write reports, manuals, speeches and articles using distinctive style
  • Ability to effectively respond, verbally and written, to sensitive issues, complex inquiries or complaints
  • Requires a high level of commitment to customer service, whether co-workers or clients
  • Requires in-depth knowledge of financial terms and principles
  • Able to forecast and prepare budgets
  • Conducts complex financial/business analysis including the preparation of complex reports
  • Ability to identify and analyze problems with limited information, then recommend more than one resolution alternative
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Requires advanced analytical and quantitative skills
  • Advanced knowledge of computer software and hardware (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite Products)
  • Ability to work in multiple accounting software applications
