Responsibilities

  • Manage the recruitment process by crafting and posting job descriptions, screening applicants, and coordinating interview schedules.
  • Prepare and deliver offer packages, oversee background checks, and facilitate a seamless onboarding experience for new hires.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with external recruitment agencies and community organizations to enhance the candidate pipeline.
  • Act as the primary contact for employee inquiries and concerns, addressing issues and escalating them when necessary.
  • Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local employment regulations, including those specific to California.
  • Organize and track mandatory training sessions (e.g., Fair Housing, Sexual Harassment Prevention) and maintain certification records.
  • Keep accurate HR documentation, including staff rosters and personnel files, in compliance with legal standards.
  • Assist with workers’ compensation claims, incident reporting, and insurance processes in collaboration with the legal team.
  • Oversee leave management, benefits enrollment, and other HR-related paperwork.
  • Assess training needs in collaboration with property management leaders.
  • Create or source training programs to ensure staff are knowledgeable about company policies and fair housing laws.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training initiatives and implement enhancements as necessary.
  • Gather and analyze HR metrics (e.g., turnover rates, headcount, recruitment pipeline) to support strategic decision-making.
  • Collaborate with the property management team to extract workforce data from systems (e.g., Appfolio) and produce regular HR and operations reports.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to leadership for process enhancements and resource allocation.
  • Revise and standardize HR manuals, employee handbooks, and standard operating procedures to reflect changing regulations and company growth.
  • Work with department leaders to optimize cross-functional workflows, particularly those impacting employee experience.
  • Promote a positive workplace culture by advocating for engagement initiatives and fostering open communication.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as an HR generalist or in a similar role, ideally within a fast-paced environment; experience in real estate or property management is a plus.
  • Proficient in HRIS platforms; familiarity with property management software (e.g., Appfolio) is a plus.
  • Strong skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or Google Workspace for reporting and presentations.
  • In-depth knowledge of California labor laws and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with employees at all levels while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Analytical mindset with a comfort in utilizing HR analytics and data-driven insights for process improvement.
  • Proficient problem-solving skills, capable of addressing employee relations issues and mediating conflicts professionally.
