Responsibilities

  • Supervise external tax consultants to guarantee the timely submission of federal, state, and local tax returns, as well as investor K-1s and other pertinent tax documents for the organization, its subsidiaries, funds/partnerships, and special purpose vehicles (SPVs) by established deadlines (e.g., March 31st/July 31st).
  • Ensure prompt responses to investor inquiries.
  • Maintain compliance with FATCA/CRS reporting obligations and timelines, including the creation and implementation of effective compliance protocols.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of U.S. international tax laws to ensure all filings and payments are completed on schedule.
  • Oversee global tax compliance, including the review and submission of international, federal, state, and local tax returns.
  • Manage compliance and accounting for indirect taxes, particularly concerning transfer pricing.
  • Assist in tax-related due diligence and structuring, primarily conducted by external advisors, particularly during mergers and acquisitions.
  • Formulate and articulate strategies to reduce the company's tax exposure while ensuring adherence to relevant laws and regulations.
  • Support the determination of appropriate tax accounting treatment for acquisitions (both domestic and international), sales, recapitalizations, and other transactions.
  • Review fund documentation, lower-tier partnership agreements, and assess the tax implications of economic agreements (e.g., tax allocations, distribution preferences).
  • Act as a tax subject matter expert, collaborating across finance, legal, and other business areas.
  • Evaluate and mitigate tax risks associated with the organization’s business operations.
  • Establish controls and processes to ensure precise and compliant tax reporting.
  • Lead the preparation and submission of various tax documents, including 1099s and Form 1042s.
  • Oversee all aspects of financial reporting related to income taxes.
  • Manage necessary tax reporting to tax authorities and stakeholders.
  • Handle tax audits and inquiries from tax authorities, ensuring timely responses to information requests.
  • Resolve all tax notices effectively.
  • Collaborate with external advisors, legal counsel, and auditors to address tax issues efficiently.
  • Promote a culture of teamwork, innovation, and continuous improvement within the accounting department.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal partners, colleagues, and external consultants.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in a combination of public accounting and private industry within a tax accounting role.
  • Possession of an active CPA license.
  • An undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A focused career in the private equity sector, with extensive experience in partnership and corporate tax returns, K-1s, and technical tax knowledge relevant to partnerships (e.g., depreciation, basis establishment and allocation, carried interest, etc.).
  • Experience working with nonprofit and international clients.
  • Proven experience in managing third-party CPA firms and outsourced resources.
  • Familiarity with SAP and Equity Works is advantageous.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, with the capability to make informed decisions and solve complex problems.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, along with maturity and sound judgment are essential.
