Leading mortgage and investment management firm in the Pasadena/San Gabriel Valley area is looking for a REIT Controller that is primarily responsible for managing the REIT's global accounting and reporting requirements. Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will be responsible for the day to day accounting for the REIT. This position requires strong communication skills and exceptional accounting and finance abilities, including a solid understanding of the Mortgage REIT industry.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with key stakeholders that include the investment support teams and Portfolio Management on a regular basis
Oversee/Perform interest and income calculations with the understanding that financial reporting will be subject to public company scrutiny
Assist in preparing and review of public filings required for a NYSE listed Mortgage REIT
Liaise with external auditors and internal auditors at regular intervals during the fiscal year
Interface with the third party portfolio accounting firm and third party valuation firms
Partner with the external consultants regularly on matters requiring their expertise
Oversee recording of securitizing packages
Guide in the preparation of Investor and Audit Committee presentations
Assist with earnings projections
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field
Minimum of 5 years of relatable experience
Strong knowledge of positions held by the REIT (RMBS, CMBS, Non-QM residential mortgage loans, and commercial loans) and a detailed understanding of the accounting intricacies associated with such positions
Possess a high level understanding of accounting and reporting processes, as relates to Mortgage REITs
Strong familiarity with Mortgage Backed Securities, Loans and mortgage financing
Demonstrated experience with valuation and accounting issues associated investments and hedging instruments
Expertise with complex interest calculations
Familiarity and experience monthly and quarterly accounting closes and reviewing of 10-Q’s and 10-K’s
Understanding of the key areas of risk and focus for Mortgage REITS
