Our consumer products client in the South Bay is looking for a strong Senior Accountant with manufacturing experience. Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for accounting, policies and procedures in accordance with GAAP, with a focus on technical accounting, financial reporting, control implementation, as well as working on complex areas such as inventory and cost of goods sold. 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that internal and external accounting and financial reporting is delivered in accordance with GAAP and applicable guidance
  • Assist in month end financial statement close process by preparing, reviewing and analyzing accounting entries and account reconciliations
  • Oversee accuracy of revenue recognition, cost of goods sold, inventory costing and valuation
  • Work with Staff Accountant and Cost Accountant in ensuring all daily activities are covered
  • Together with the Cost Accountant and Inventory team at our manufacturing facility, investigate reporting discrepancies and anomalies, and communicate issues in a timely manner so as to have appropriate solution
  • Assist VP Finance and Controller in various forecasting/budgeting activities as needed, and support planning efforts and provide decision support analysis
  • Collaborate and work cross-functionally throughout the organization to ensure processes, workflows and information is updated on a timely basis to ensure accurate accounting and reporting
  • Review existing processes and systems to identify improvement opportunities with a focus on simplification, standardization and operational efficiencies through automation
  • Evaluate supply chain processes and ensure inventory-related processes and controls are designed and functioning effectively
  •  Establish, implement and document new policies and procedures that ensure financial transactions are executed in accordance with GAAP principles
  • Work with VP Finance and Controller to identify technical accounting issues and proactively plan for and research, so as to appropriately account for them
  • Proactively work with auditors and CPA firm on technical accounting issues, year-end audits, annual vendor 1099s and annual tax returns
  • Continually develop and improve month end close and financial reporting procedures and that drive the reduction of the close timeline by assessing and streamlining close-related activities
  • Work closely with the VP Finance and Controller on other responsibilities including leading and management of special projects, any ERP enhancements, internal controls, and ad hoc analyses as requested

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree in Accounting or related field required.
  • CPA with expertise in technical accounting policies, procedures and treatments in accordance with US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements is a plus
  • 3 – 6 years of experience in financial roles, with a mix of public accounting and industry experience preferred
  • Experience with high-pace work environments
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, including technical accounting policies, procedures and treatments
  • Industry experience in retail, consumer products and/or manufacturing highly desired
  • Strong knowledge of inventory accounting a plus
  • Highly detail oriented with a passion and curiosity to dive into problem areas in order to avoid financial surprises
  • Experience with systems integrations and development of automated processes
  • Strong systems skills, must be comfortable analyzing and manipulating large data sets, as well as experience with ERP and reporting tools
  • Ability to effectively communicate clear and concise ideas verbally and in writing
  • Must be willing to travel for occasional site visits
