Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and analysis of financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, profit and loss reports, and cash flow statements, ensuring adherence to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and internal policies.
  • Support the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes by reviewing journal entries and reconciliations, ensuring timely and precise financial reporting.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external auditors to provide necessary documentation and address inquiries during audit processes.
  • Reconcile and review various balance sheet accounts, including investments held-to-maturity, inventory, accounts receivable, allowances, and revenue cut-off.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and tax filings, staying informed about changes in accounting and financial regulations.
  • Identify and implement improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the financial accounting close process.
  • Supervise a team of accounting and finance professionals, offering guidance, support, and mentorship.
  • Conduct financial analysis to aid decision-making, evaluate the organization's financial health, and provide recommendations for cost reduction and revenue enhancement.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining robust accounting controls and practices over financial reporting to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX).
  • Ensure appropriate revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606, particularly for variable consideration contracts and cost of sales, including inventory counts.
  • Provide financial and other data support to various departments as needed.
  • Actively participate as a member of the management team, engaging in management meetings and other leadership activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, or statistics is preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a progressive management role.
  • Experience in accounting for public companies and with a big-four or mid-size accounting firm is required.
  • Strong understanding of financial activities, policies, and processes, including consolidations, Sarbanes-Oxley, and US GAAP compliance.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), particularly ASC 606 and ASC 805.
  • Experience in coordinating and managing the internal and external audit process.
  • Proven track record of maintaining an effective system of internal controls within a public company.
  • Experience in dynamic environments characterized by significant change and growth; prior experience leading finance/accounting teams through digital transformation is preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred.
  • Experience in the life sciences, healthcare, or laboratory services sectors is preferred.
  • Proficient in Excel, NetSuite, and Blackline.
  • Ability to analyze complex accounting issues systematically and resolve them effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to use tact and diplomacy to foster cooperative relationships.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to accuracy.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
