Our client is seeking a Vice President to join their Finance and Operations team who will run and oversee the overall financial accounting and reporting for a newly formed BDC and additional private fund portfolios. Preferred candidates will have extensive knowledge of private credit and/or alternative investments, the ability to work independently in several capacities, and perform and deliver results under deadlines.
Responsibilities
Review full-cycle accounting of private funds and BDC portfolios, including review and analysis of the financial statements (10-Ks, 10-Qs, 8-Ks), general ledgers, subsidiary ledgers, budgets, and cash flow projections.
Perform management fee and incentive calculations, expense accruals, budgeting, and forecasting.
Oversee third-party administrator to coordinate workflow and review all accounting deliverables to ensure accuracy and conformity with applicable accounting standards.
Analysis of fund and investment operations; accurately applies distribution allocations to calculate incentive allocations and performance returns applying knowledge of legal agreements and fund structure, including co-investment structures.
Prepare and/or review contribution and distribution calculations, summaries, and notices as needed for funds and co-investments.
Work with external auditors during quarterly reviews, annual audits, and interim test work. Assist in managing external auditors’ requests and schedules to complete quarterly reviews and annual audits in accordance with reporting deadlines, Board of Director meetings, Audit Committee meetings, etc.
Provide information for and take part in tax preparation and valuations.
Prepare materials for the BDC Board of Directors.
Perform research on new accounting pronouncements and their impact on the financial statements.
Effectively liaise with investment professionals, legal and compliance, and operations to ensure proper controls are in place to support current and future business.
Applies knowledge of accounting and tax issues to determine the impact on operations and cash flows in preparing asset and fund-level models.
Update and analyze results at least quarterly for internal monitoring, external track records, and presentations.
Coordinate with Investor Relations with respect to fulfilling ongoing and ad hoc requests from investors for financial information.
Work with the Portfolio Management team to prepare quarterly investor deck/earnings releases.
Work with internal and external parties to ensure the accuracy of the data gathered and the accuracy of the output from that data.
Proactively search out ways to improve and streamline processes, including assisting with technology initiatives.
Non-Essential Functions:
Operate standard office equipment.
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Work remotely, nights, and weekends as needed and with short notice (for time-sensitive requests).
Perform duties related to quarterly accounting closes and reporting, and technical memo preparation, as necessary.
Requirements & Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Related Field.
10+ years of previous accounting or finance experience.
Private credit and/or alternative investments experience.
Prior experience preparing financial statements for registered funds and/or BDCs.
Experience working with or for third-party fund administrators (preferred).
Big 4 or other Public Accounting Experience (optional).
CPA (optional).
Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
Extensive knowledge of GAAP accounting.
Ability to organize, perform and prioritize various functions to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
